randevu options.

February 4, 2008

It’s been snowing non-stop. Went for a long walk this morning ’round the hood and thru the woods, Oso paving the way, crows flying and cawing overhead. The Sangres looked so mysterious, so Himalaya-esque. I just love that.

I’ve been a little distracted the past few days scheming with Patrick for a randevu somewhere, an adventure somewhere south…Mexico, Guatamala, or even Southern New Mexico. Can’t decide quite yet, but my internal compass is pointing me towards some adventure or another. I think that’s why I was inspired to paint up that little dream doodle. Doesn’t that look so fun?

What else…OH–I went on a little spontaneous excursion Friday to Santa Fe to see Barak Obama speak. (He’s…hope.) I won’t go on, but I LOVE his idea for a 4 thousand dollars credit/year to any college student’s education in return for community service–local or even the Peace Corps. DANG! That’s awesome. Another little thing I remember was a challenge to every one, to be a better person. I just thought that was so cool. Anyway, I was smitten.

On an odd, but still political note: President Bush was at Hallmark. Too weird. When I heard it on npr, I immediately thought, “I bet none of my friends were allowed to attend!” (for fear of protests or smirks or some creative something—I was right.) My friend Jim just posted his report.

To add to the random mix of this post…I’ll share a coupla other things…
a huge music inspiration (new to me) which y’all probably already know about (I’m so slow on these fronts),

and this hilarious video that I saw at the ever-so-inspiring Andrea’s blog and just had to share further,

and my pal Oso.

BTW, where would you go if you had 2 weeks to take off for exploring purposes????

Another good post that reminded me of an excursion I have been loosly planning for after school.

Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada would be/hopefully will be my two week excursion of sort. I want to do a canoeing/painting trip up through there to gather a body of work that is consistant in the painting and the subject matter. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it all comes together.

    Thanks for the reminder!

Guatamala seems like it would be a good choice!

I want to take a trip too! Anywhere would be great, I got the itch.
Thanks for the info about pandora, I bookmarked it.

OMG, Andrew, i just looked up Algoquin PPark—WOW. it looks amazing. no doubt it would be the pefect place for landscape painting + Inspiration. Hope you go, and can’t wait to see. Guatamala is actually my first choice, but i want to go for 6 months! (not 2 wks…)

Doug, Pandora rocks! You’ll love it. It’s so great to hear all this new music and music you don’t own, but similar to what you like.it’s genius! they shoulda called it the Music GENUIS project instead of the Genome Project.

    This painting is AMAZING!!!!
I love it! The details, like that you put shadows on the birds, is what sets your work apart. Love it, love it :-)
Another site you might like is http://www.reciva.com
Like Pandora, but radio stations from all over the world.
Great post. I hadn’t heard those two ideas of Obama’s… Fingers crossed.

A terrific post! Loved the “Frozen in Place” video. I needed a laugh. Love the painting. Love the sketch of Oso. All very fun. Two weeks only? Oooo, tough one. I want to go back to Africa, but two weeks might not be long enough. How about back to Hawaii to catch some waves. Or Mexico. I’d go there too.

I’d go to Italy and the forest where St. Francis communed with animals, and also explore the nearby terrains of the donkey, or you’d love Custer St. Park – but you have to go the week before Memorial Day, no one is there, the baby animals are out, then you take a day and visit the nearby Badlands. I used to travel through Custer evry Spring on the way to Colo. to visit my brother. I can’t tell you the experiences I had in that park, encounters with wild life [with my old dog Louie at my side]…I spent 2 days in Pierre LaChaise in Paris – totally awesome.

Ahh!! I think the top piece is my favorite that you’ve ever done! I love it so much. Maybe one day I can have a print of it?:) Anyhoo, thesis is going great. I am doing a series of single-image comics. I have loosened up a lot in my work lately. I will post them soon.

LOVE the dream doodle! Delicious. And the frozen video is way cool – I wish I’d have seen it in person.

I too am smitten with Obama. Check out the block print I did for super Tuesday.
