I need your help. My publisher, Henry Holt, just sent ten copies of my book, My Travelin’ Eye, that I need to find homes for. Perfect timing for the holiday season! I’m looking for ten places to send them to: children’s hospitals who have libraries, a shelter or community center, special ed or art therapy programs, maybe your son or daughter’s ophthalmologist’s office, etc. Basically, a variety of places where a lot of kids are likely to discover and enjoy it. Please leave your suggestion in a comment below, and if a lot more than ten suggestions pile up, I’ll keep them for the future. Thanks!!

Perhaps the school Joe works at would be a good place – Hochstein School of Music and Dance. He helps to run a therapeutic arts program on one of his days and I bet the students would love the book.

I’m thinking of my friends there in Fort Bragg, at art explorers.org
they are the developmentally challenged, all artists!!!! You could ask Kirsten if they can take it. She is an artist friend that helps manage there. you’ll see their photos, ( I recall a travelin eye) and all their ART on the website. They inspire me and are very active in the community, having shows etc, selling cards. Very sweet bunch.
They have a lovely studio they paint at, and convene there very often. Peace

Jenny, if you still have one, it might not be a bad idea to send one to Iowa. i can take it to either the public library here in Dubuque, or to the multicultural center(where kids play and learn, or to one of the elementary schools, or to one of the hospitals, if they happen to have a library.
OR, to the Iowa children’s hospital. We have an annual fundraiser event for the children at this hospital. It’s called Dance marathon and we dance for 12 hrs straight without sitting. each dancers are asked to raise 150 or more dollars and the event itself draws money from sponsers and other participants. So we can send a book for these kids.
Let me know what you think. Just thought it would be nice to let the Iowans enjoy reading your story.
talk to you soon.
stay warm

Hi Jenny,
There is a new international school here in Tiruvannamalai, plus several orphanages that I am sure would appreciate your book! I love to think of children in India reading it.

Hi Jenny,
I think you may know my daughter, Kiersten. I found your blog as I was reading hers. I enjoyed reading many of your entries. I saw your book, My Travelin’ Eye. I love the concept.
I am a book reviewer. I work with a team of 12 elementary-aged children to review picture books. We usually review only recent titles, (current year) but I would be interested in presenting your book to the KIDDLE ÇRITers for their possible review. If that is of interest to you, please have Henry Holt send me a copy of your book.
You can see my work in my column, Teacher’s Pets, at SmartWriters.com. Scroll down and look for the frog logo.
You can also visit my website to learn more about me and to see the reviews published there.
All best,
Donna O’Donnell Figurski

hi Donna! (Kiersten’s mom!) first off, you have the coolest daughter. we are so lucky she helped our daughter come into the world! and now i’m excited to be on the birth center’s board, so i can support them.
i’m so happy you introduced yourself and Kiddle CRITters / Teacher’s Pets! I just read your latest review, the students’ conversation on “Baby, Baby, Blah Blah Blah” (i’m so curious to hear what they’d say about my book), AND your lesson plans (a great addition!) i’ll share your review site with my sister’s school — i know they’ll love it. And YES! i’ll send a request to HH today to send you a book; either way, i’ll make sure you get a copy. I would be honored if you choose to review my book! Would you email me your mailing address at coloredsock@mac.com ? Thanks for thinking of me, Donna, and hope to meet you sometime when you visit your family again…we’re having a booth at the farmer’s market this summer, so if you come out, perhaps we’ll see you there. take care, jenny

Would love to know if you have received any lesson plans for your book. I love My Travelin’ Eye. Looking forward to your new book, I am a third grade teacher and can’t wait to share with my class.

hi Robyn! thanks for your msg. i have talked to and heard from a lot of teachers who’ve used My Travelin’ Eye in their classrooms, but i’ve never actually received any from them. you did give me the idea though to write a post asking for teachers to share how they’ve used it…and see what comes up. so check back soon! also, a teacher who leads a gradeschool student book review group is (i think) going to review it in the new school year. if they do, the teacher also writes lesson plans and shares them on her blog. if she does, i’ll be sure to post it! also, thanks about my new book! it is all finished, and is slotted for release in 2011. lucky for my patience, i am busy chasing my daughter around and writing new stories — so hopefully the wait will go fast!
