August 2011

Summering.

By |August 14th, 2011|

Four months ago, I said I would post on the 13th of every month, in a countdown celebration for the release of my new picture book, Same, Same but Different. Um, while my excitement did not diminish, Summer took over. Hee.

Here’s an update:

After the smoke and wild winds left, the bears came. Patrick and I […]

July 2011

smoke.

By |July 6th, 2011|

The bottom photo was taken by Colin Dullaghan back in October, 2010 — paradise on a clear, Fall day! The top photo was from last week.

Ahhh, it’s been awhile. There is a big fire in New Mexico, about an hour and a half south of us, and the winds have filled our valley with smoke. […]

Let’s make something, she says.

So we made a mask and she sat in front of a mirror on the floor holding it up, yelling, “CAAAAWW, CAAAAAAWWW!” for fifteen minutes. She reminded me how much I love corrugated cardboard and tape.

“Living simply isn’t necessarily simple…you strive for understanding what sacred is…”
from 23 Feet, a film by Allie Bombach

We’ve been racing against the clock, preparing a garden once again — and attempting to plant an entire year of food in a teeny window of time — and grow it within a wildly short, 90-day season. It’s […]

May 2011

adobe day! (as in, “mud” play…)

By |May 29th, 2011|

Springtime always wakes me up in the best way. I feel so alive communing with dirt and chickens and our garden! On a typical day, Tulsi is laying in dirt playing within 5 minutes of getting out of bed snuggles. Makes sense that one of her first words was “dirt”.

Do you remember making mud pies […]

Tulsi, I never questioned whether we gave you the “right” name or not. I always knew it was perfect. You are a rare and beautiful spirit. I see the Divine every time I look into your eyes and heart! I have treasured every moment of your first 2 years with us, watching who […]

April 2011

Be the drawing you wish to become.

By |April 5th, 2011|

This week was a tough one. We all have Spring colds and felt pretty miserable. On the positive side, Tulsi and I got 24-7 snuggle time for about 5 days straight. :) Today we all began to feel a wee bit more like our normal selves. This afternoon Tulsi and I sat side by side, […]

February 2011

a list for today.

By |February 19th, 2011|

what i’ve been doing besides blogging…

– discovering again how much i love doodling and drawing letters with odd things like icicles and food coloring, candles dipped in ink, henna, carved potato prints, lemon juice and fire, and stencils inked with ragged old ink pads

– goin’ with the energy of late nights and long naps and […]

January 2011

happy happy.

By |January 7th, 2011|

Tulsi prefers to be either naked, or dressed in at least 10 layers. Her funny smile and excitement over everything is contagious.

After a whirlwind 2 1/2 week trip to the midwest for work+holiday, we are really happy to be back in the mountains. The night we got home I was outside in below 0 degree […]

December 2010

for the birds.

By |December 7th, 2010|

December, warm, sunny and beautiful, and still no snow. I am confused what time of year it is! For the past several years, we have decorated one of our house plants for Christmas…a Northfolk Pine or our gigantic Ficus ‘tree’. There is no room in our house for a traditional Christmas tree, and it’s just […]
