wall collage.

October 20, 2008

Hope you had a nice weekend! We spent yesterday in the garden harvesting more veggies and closing down the garden. Spread thousands of wildflower seeds all around our land and played soccer with friends. It was premo Fall weather. No choice but to be outside.

And this morning I’m refreshed and back in the studio painting. I’ve been having so much fun working on my new kid’s book. While I can’t share any finished illos, I thought I’d share a small glimpse of my wall, collaged with things I’ve collected to inspire me. It is so fun to watch this book come to life. It’s somewhat of a mystery even to me — until it’s finished.

I love to surround myself with all these patterns, colors, and imagery, but when I paint, I sorta zone it all out and just play. Then, it’s like, I’m on my own, to make my own decisions. It has to arise as it will, doesn’t it? In my head and through my hands and eyes — no matter what is dancing all around me. Also, it’s kinda funny, but as the characters come alive, they seem to take charge, and I’m more along for the ride!

Other fun inspiration: MUSIC: Bon Iver, READING: The Red Tent, ART: Indian Matchbook Art, and PAINTINGS: SaraJo Frieden’s “Let’s Get Lost”.

It is neat to see what you look at for inspiration! All the stuff to get the flow going. I can’t wait to see the book, I am so happy to have your first one. Hope all is well!

It is so cool to see what you look to for inspiration. I love how your characters are starting to write their own story… it is such a gift you have to step aside and let your instincts and talents take over. Good luck with your print sales, I love them all.

Cool Jenny! I always feel so intimidated when it’s time to start art for a new book, because there is so much great inspiration and endless possibilities. But I love when I get to the place where it “clicks”, I pick a path, and go with it. It’s fun to see where you end up. Best of luck on your journey!

I’m excited to see how your inspiration gets absorbed and how it will come out in your way. Happy painting to ya!

    Beautiful, as always.

Hope you’re feeling well. And thanks for the nod to Bon Iver.

While I’m here, heads-up to an increasingly rare new post on my blog. I think you’ll like it.
