music for painting: HELP!

October 27, 2008

Just got back from an awesome 4-day roadtrip to Colorado hiking, playing, and chillin’ in the hot springs. Er, well, just warm springs for me, but still so nice. Feels good to have a little sun on the face and energy in the cup. The weather was perfect. Ultra beautiful landscapes, sun roof open and music turned up.

Aside from matte medium, music is the other elixar of life. SO…HELP WANTED: I’m back in my studio and in SO much need of NEW MUSIC on the itunes library. PLLLLLEASE, all ye visitors (both those who comment and those who never ever do), share your favorite current or all time fave albums for painting or dancin’ or even doing the dishes to. But painting mostly, since boy do I have my work cut out for me the next 2 1/2 months.

So bring it on. Don’t be shy. — folk, jazz, world, reggae, punk rock, whatever –just discover me something new!

Jenny, I don’t have any to add just this second, but I’m sure the music YOU already listen to would be new to me… can you share some of your own favorites? I’m so in need of new music as well!!

Ooooh great question and I love your work and your blog and your site! I came across you last weekend and can’t wait to really dig in and read EVERYTHING. As for music, Well, none of this is new, but I’m thinking some Velvet Underground, Cat Power, Neil Young…all probably based on my current mood so I should post some other ideas later.

Hi (!), I’m de-lurking to recommend a few of my favorites lately… Julieta Venegas (in Spanish), Arvo Pärt (Estonian composer, beautiful, minimalist classical), THE PIXIES (rock), Kate Wolf (folk; Close To You, in particular), early Sinéad Marie Bernadette O’Connor (holy moly I didn’t know that was her full name either). Have fun!

    cheers from CO,
    anj

When I am painting, I love to hear to s.XVII music, for example Jordi Savall’s viola da gamba compilations (Tous les matins du monde; Les voix humanes) are sublime and poetic and carry you away… Bach it’s essential, but it’s very intellectual and maybe absorbs too much.

  6. Anna Gallés Says:

I forgot about Debussy’s magical works for piano, such as “Pagodes” “Suite bergamasque” “Images oubliées”…
Best regards from Barcelona, Spain. I am an admirer of your work!
