Holiday BOOK Give-a-way!

December 7, 2008

Writing and illustrating my first book (and having it published) was a major dream come true for me in 2008. An amazing gift to say the least! I want to celebrate by giving away a special signed copy of My Travelin’ Eye to a lucky ONE-of-YOU during the holidays.

Fun, huh? So…just leave a littl’ comment below (maybe share a fun gift from your year!), and I’ll have Oso the Wonder Elf pick a name on December 16th. If you already have a book, you can still put your name in, and I can sign it for a special little friend of yours! And, you can live anywhere in the world to play! xo jenny sue

    Oh! Oh! How exciting!
I picked up your book at the local library and I think I’ve renewed it about three times.

I am an illustrator, at the work-pro-bono-build-a-portfolio stage, aspiring to do my own children’s book someday. So not only was your book charming and well-written, it was also immensely helpful in terms of illustration inspiration. Something about the pictures and the layout woke up something in me, and I’ve been art-ing like mad ever since. (More than I had been.)

Aw, that sounds way too gushy, sorry about that. I am totally not trying to brown nose. Mostly: I love the book, and I would love to be entered in the drawing!

  2. Jaya Says:

    i love you too two

  3. Megan Says:

Whee! I saw the book at B&N, and then looked you up and found your great website.

I would love to give this book to my sister’s kid. My sister and I learned a lot about how to respect people and see past differences when the coordinator of altar servers at our childhood church retired and we got a new one…with a travelin’ eye.

It’s hard to overstate how much building that relationship affected me. Your book, and your story, are just fantastic. Thank you!

  4. surya Says:

    Really really exciting.

I never got a signed book from you and the one I bought, i gave to my friend’s sister,so i don’t really have your book with me. As for the drawing, i have never won anything that way but i hope i have luck in this one.

talking about the luck, i have been lucky enough to get a chance to be here in the united states. And that i think is the greatest gift i received this year. Apart from that, some happy and sad life experiences have also proven to be gifts for my life.

fun gift was going on snow hiking to the mountain lake that one day with you and oso:)

Jenny, i appreciate what you have been doing each moment of your life. Hope you will keep being inspired to inspire people.

Wish you a merry christmas and a happy new year.

    With lots of love

  5. Bhavana Says:

Would love to win this one :)

    thanks,

  6. kslaughter Says:

I love your book—the illustrations make me think of Eric Carle books—which make me think of reading with my children when they were small. My special gift this year has been having my son Nick at home with me for school. After 6 years in French school here in Belgium, it was his turn to do homeschool like his older brother and sister had done. One of the things we enjoy most is gathering up every pillow in the house and snuggling up in my bed to read. I would love to share your book with my Nick—-I’ve got my fingers and my toes crossed ; ). Thanks for being so generous!

  7. sperlygirl Says:

I would love a signed copy of your book.

A gift from my year was teaching a night class at the same art college I attended several years ago. It was something I had hoped to eventually get into and the opportunity presented itself unexpectedly. I teach Children’s Book Illustration to adults one night a week. I love it.

The book was very captivating. I had all the components that I wanted to see in a children’s book. It taught, it entertained, and it had a happy ending.

    Excellent!

And this is from a nerdy engineer!

  17. Elena Says:

I don’t have my kids yet, nor sister’s kids, neither brother’s kids to give books to, my cousins have all grown up, but I think I have not yet :) and I put my name in the list, because I love your illustrations and the thrill of travelling and exploring the world with you :*)

  22. sixbee Says:

A gift to me, this year, has been my recovering health and more importantly the insight to slow down and treasure time as it unfolds — while washing dishes, or walking in a forest with my young son and husband, or playing my guitar. That said, if I’m the lucky name, I’d love to share your book with someone special this holiday. Even if I’m not the lucky name, thanks for the generous offer and for sharing your cheerful art.

  23. Abigail Says:

Major gift this year was our baby boy, born in July! His donor dad has a “travelin’ eye,” coincidentally…

I saw your book cover when I was in the offices of your publisher a while back, before it was released. It was on display, so obviously they were excited about it!

    congratulations!

  24. Tiffany Says:

Oh Jenny what a wonderful giveaway. I would love to share your story with my kids, cross your fingers for me!

The greatest gift I’ve received this year is the gift of new friendships, online through wonderful blogs, indie shops and craft swaps. I’ve had a tough year health wise and I am amazed at the support and caring I’ve received from my family, friends and new found internet friends. I am very grateful and blessed.

    Thank you for this opportunity,
    Rowan Willow {alter /artist ego}
    aka Tiffany :0)

ps Thanx for the Chai Pilgrimage e-mails too, I really enjoy reading them.

  34. jenny Says:

Hey, just want to say that I’m a huge fan of your work. Your style is completely my style as well, bright, creative and sort of scrapbookey-organicy. I love it. And even though I’m a teenager I love children’s books. Every time I go to a new place I try and pick up a kid’s book about the culture of the place I visited. So, just thanks for doing what you do and I hope that in the future I can be a free, awesome artist like you.

  35. daya Says:

I just found your book, I haven’t read it but I would love to get a copy for my 6 year old daughter. She was just diagnosed with “lazy eye”. I’m sure she would find your story inspiring, given that she is a self described “artist”.

Hi Everyone! Thanks for the really nice comments and for ‘playing’. Oso “Sticky Paws” Kostecki-Shaw picked a name last night: Sarah Watts—hope you enjoy it Sarah!

  54. Amy Poague Says:

    Hi there,
it just occurred to me that you might like the song “Lazy Eye” by Hem, on their album “Rabbit Songs.” It’s slow and gentle and kind of in the spirit of the book.
